Jakarta – An undersea earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale was recorded just off the coast of the island of Sumatra Saturday evening.
The U. S. Geological Survey recorded the earthquake at 11:26 pm local time (4:26 pm GMT) 285 kilometers west of Sibolga at a depth of 24 kilometers (15 miles).
No tsunami warnings or warnings following the quake has been reported by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center located in Hawaii.
As of this posting time, there are no reports of any damages or casualties in association with the said earthquake.
Indonesia is one of the many countries located in the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, making it extremely prone to earthquakes and other seismic activities.
