6.1 Quake Hits Mindano, No Tsunami

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of the southern Philippines, the US Geological Survey reported, but there were no immediate reports of damage and a tsunami warning was not issued.

The quake struck at sea at 2:47pm (local time), more than 110 kilometres from Davao city, a major city on the southern island of Mindanao, according to the US monitoring service.

An official with the Philippine Institute of Vulcanology and Seismology said there were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami warning was issued.
