The wards’ low-income group people are especially exposed to arsenic related diseases as they drink and use water from those tubewells to meet daily necessities.

HIGH levels of a cancer-causing heavy metal and arsenic have been discovered in a river and reservoir in the southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Despite efforts to dilute the pollution, carcinogenic cadmium still remained at three times permitted levels in the reservoir at Lalang Hydroelectric Dam on the Longjiang River on Thursday afternoon, Xinhua news agency said yesterday.

An environmental monitor Tuesday identified 19 new sites across the United States where groundwater near coal-ash dumps from power plants was found to be contaminated with arsenic and other pollutants.
The Environmental Integrity Project said the pollution — in some cases more than 10 times the maximum contaminant level for arsenic — is a direct health threat to thousands of residents who live near plants which use coal.

Over the past week or so, the geological upheaval in the Canary Islands has caused jets of water to rise more than 20 metres into the air and locals claim to have even seen rocks thrown out of the sea. Measurements taken by researchers show that seething water is significantly warmer than the surrounding sea.
