Burning Hail Struck India In 1991

Posted by redsky On December - 1 - 2011 1 COMMENT

At Redsky News on 24th December 2010, we received an eyewitness account of burning hail striking the Chittagong area of India in the 1990′s.

An email describing this event was sent to our office by Nakul Jana who is an energy specialist in India and who quoted from The Global Meltdown Domino Effect as follows:

Permafrost Loss Gets Worse

Posted by redsky On November - 30 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The threat to climate change posed by thawing permafrost, which could release stocks of stored carbon, is greater than estimated, a group of scientists said on Wednesday.

By 2100, the amount of carbon released by permafrost loss could be “1.7-5.2 times larger than those reported,” depending on how swiftly Earth’s surface warms, they said.

Global Crisis As Antarctic Melts

Posted by redsky On July - 19 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Global Warming continues to be approaches by governments as a “luxury” item, rather than a matter of basic human survival. Humanity is being taken to its destruction by a greed-driven elite.

These elites, which include ‘Big Oil’ and other related interests, are intoxicated by “the high” of pursuing ego-driven power, in a comparable manner to drug addicts who pursue an elusive “high”, irrespective of the threat of pursuing that “high” poses to their own basic survival, and the security of others.

Scientists Doubt Gulf Methane Claim

Posted by redsky On February - 20 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Scientists on Thursday cast doubt on a study that claimed bacteria ate nearly all the methane that leaked after the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, saying its methods were flawed.

Describing the findings as “ambiguous” and “unconvincing,” marine scientist and lead author Samantha Joye and colleagues from 12 other institutions wrote in the journal Science that the study’s methods demanded a second look.

Did Bacteria Eat Gulf Methane?

Posted by redsky On January - 9 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Last week The Associated Press published an article claiming that bacteria ate all the Methane gas emitted by the BP Oil spill disaster in just four months.

This article was based on a scientific report produced by various authors one of the main being Professor David Valentine of The University of California.

Lakes a Big Source of Methane

Posted by redsky On January - 7 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Lakes and rivers emit far more of a powerful greenhouse gas than previously thought, counteracting the overall role of nature in soaking up climate-warming gases, a study showed on Thursday.

A review of 474 freshwater systems indicated they emitted methane equivalent to 25 percent of all carbon dioxide — the main greenhouse gas blamed for stoking climate change — absorbed by the world’s land areas every year.

Scientists Monitor Methane Lakes

Posted by redsky On November - 7 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Video Report: The thawing permafrost is emitting Methane which is 21 times better at trapping heat than CO2. It is also releasing carbon into the atmosphere which will double today’s carbon levels.
The increase in temperatures caused by this Methane release will in turn cause the release of billions of tonnes of more Methane from the ocean floors. Katey Walter from the University of Alaska tests Methane levels and searches for Methane hotspots.

This effect is a key factor in the first event, “Burning Hail”, “The First Trumpet” in the “Global Meltdown Domino Effect” E-Book which you can download free from this website.

Sliding Toward Climate Catastrophe

The Russian heat wave, Pakistan floods, and the breaking up of the Greenland ice-sheet — are these indications that things are getting worse faster than previously imagined? Asks Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed.

The coincidence and severity of such natural disasters as the Russian heat wave, Pakistan floods and the breaking up of the Greenland ice-sheet in recent months has prompted renewed debate about the role of global warming and whether such crises are merely a foretaste of things to come.

Arctic Ice in Methane Death Spiral

Posted by redsky On September - 23 - 2010 1 COMMENT

UXBRIDGE, Canada, Sep 20, 2010 (IPS) – The carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels have melted the Arctic sea ice to its lowest volume since before the rise of human civilisation, dangerously upsetting the energy balance of the entire planet, climate scientists are reporting.

“The Arctic sea ice has reached its four lowest summer extents (area covered) in the last four years,” said Mark Serreze, director of the National Snow and Ice Data Center in the U.S. city of Boulder, Colorado.

Rapid Warming of Permafrost

Posted by redsky On August - 7 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Permafrost warming continues throughout a wide swath of the Northern Hemisphere, according to a team of scientists assembled during the recent International Polar Year.

Their extensive findings, published in the April-June 2010 edition of Permafrost and Periglacial Processes, describe the thermal state of high-latitude permafrost during the International Polar Year, 2007-2009.

Experts say methane emissions from the Arctic have risen by almost one-third in just five years, and that sharply rising temperatures are to blame.

Scientists have recorded a massive spike in the amount of a powerful greenhouse gas seeping from Arctic permafrost, in a discovery that highlights the risks of a dangerous climate tipping point.

Methane release shows dramatic increase

Posted by redsky On January - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Scientists have uncovered what appears to be a further dramatic increase in the leakage of methane gas that is seeping from the Arctic seabed.

Methane is about 20 times more potent than CO2 in trapping solar heat.

The findings come from measurements of carbon fluxes around the north of Russia, led by Igor Semiletov from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks.

Washington, Sep 3 : Melting permafrost in arctic regions, triggered by global warming, will release underground methane. Once released, methane would speed up global warming by trapping the earth’s heat radiation about 20 times more efficiently than the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide.

An MIT paper concludes that methane deposits trapped under ocean may already be escaping through vents in the sea floor at a much faster rate than previously believed.

Some scientists have associated the release, both gradual and fast, of subsurface ocean methane with climate change of the past and future. Read More / Watch Video »

Methane bubbles observed by sonar, escape from sea bed as temperatures rise

Scientists say they have evidence that the powerful greenhouse gas methane is escaping from the Arctic sea bed.
Researchers say this could be evidence of a predicted positive feedback effect of climate change.

As temperatures rise, the sea bed grows warmer and frozen water crystals in the sediment break down, allowing methane trapped inside them to escape. Read More / Watch Video »

Hundreds of methane ‘plumes’ discovered

Posted by redsky On September - 25 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

British scientists have discovered hundreds more methane “plumes” bubbling up from the Arctic seabed, in an area to the west of the Norwegian island of Svalbard.

It is the second time in a week that scientists have reported methane emissions from the Arctic.

Methane is 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas and the latest findings from two separate teams of scientists suggest it is being released in significant amounts from within the Arctic Circle. Read More / Watch Video »
