Flash Floods Hit Melbourne

Storms have caused flash flooding in Melbourne’s east.

Emergency services say about 80 properties have been flooded in the Croydon and Lilydale areas.

State Emergency Service spokesman Lachlan Quick says part of the Maroondah Highway is also under water.

“Probably 60 to 70 centimetres of water across it, which is very dangerous for a main road and we would urge people not to use that,” he said.

Sergeant Peter Williams says the ground floor of the Croydon police station has been flooded after the sudden downpour.

“It’s caused extensive damage to the carpet so there’ll be repairs needed to be done there,” he said.

The SES says there is the potential for more floods in the Sunbury area.
