A tropical storm has strengthened into a major hurricane in just a few days.

Hurricane Linda formed as a tropical depression on Sept. 5 in the Pacific Ocean. Just over 24 hours later it had strengthened into a tropical storm. And just 5 hours later Linda had already made it to hurricane status.

The warm waters feeding Linda has already made the storm a major hurricane. As of Tuesday morning, Linda was a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale, producing winds of 195 km/h.

Linda is located about 450 km from the southern tip of Baja California, moving north-northwestward at about 22 km/h. Hurricane-force winds extend about 45 km from the centre of the storm.

According to the National Weather Service, Linda is expected to weaken by Wednesday as it begins to track northwestward.

So far no warnings have been issued. However, high surf is affecting the southern part of the Baja California peninsula which could produce dangerous rip current conditions.
