Snow, flooding and gale force winds – the lower central North Island is getting it all.

Police say they have reports of snow in the Manawatu Gorge, Pahiatua Track and Norsewood areas, as well as high winds in the Sanson, Foxton and Ashhurst areas.

Laurie from Woodville says he thought friends were dreaming when they called him to tell him it was snowing.

“We do occasionally get it in the winter, but here we are in the spring time cause of the inclement weather. But I’m still shaking my head.”

State Highway One north of Bulls is also being affected by flooding. Police are urging motorists to take extreme care.

In Wellington temperatures have plummeted to six degrees. All ferries are running to time.

A band of torrential rain is currently moving in to Auckland and Waikato. WeatherWatch.co.nz warns residents to be aware of surface and flash flooding as a result of the downpour.
