There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage, and no tsunami warning is in effect.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. is rushing to install a cover over a building at its crippled Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant to shield it from wind and rain as Typhoon Ma-on approaches Japan’s coast from the south.
Work on the cover for the turbine building of the No. 3 reactor started at about 8:30 a.m. today, Junichi Matsumoto, a general manager at the utility known as Tepco, said at briefing in Tokyo. The transfer of tainted water for storage in a barge docked next to the plant was halted, spokesman Satoshi Watanabe said by telephone.

TOKYO — An earthquake has been felt in Tokyo. But the shaking caused no apparent damage and no tsunami.
The magnitude 5.5 quake hit at 9:01 p.m. Friday. The epicenter was about 70 kilometers (43 miles) north of Tokyo in southern Ibaraki prefecture. It was about 60 kilometers (37 miles) underground.

Small tsunami waves reached the Pacific coast of northern Japan Sunday after a major quake hit the region heavily damaged by the March earthquake and tsunami, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The port towns of Soma and Ofunato saw 10-centimetre (four-inch) tsunami waves triggered by the 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck off the main island of Honshu at 9:57 am (0057 GMT), the agency said.
