Strong quake rattles Greece

An earthquake struck western Greece, but no injuries or damage has been reported.

The US Geological Survey said the 5.7 magnitude quake struck at a depth of 33 kilometres.

The Athens Geodynamic Institute measured the quake at 5.4 and said it was centred off the south-western coast of the Ionian island of Zakynthos, 330 km away from Athens.

Police and witnesses said there were no reports of injuries or damage.

“We felt the earthquake but there are no immediate reports of any damage,” said a police official in Zakynthos.

Greece is regularly hit by earthquakes.
