3.7 Quake Hits Northern England

A 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck today near Leeds, England, the US Geological Survey reported.

It said the quake struck shortly after 9pm local time about 45km north of Sheffield, 55km east-northeast of Manchester and 270km north-northwest of London at a depth of 10km.

Sky News reported it was felt by people living in Cumbria, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

The tremor was the second to hit England in the space of a few weeks.

Last month, the British Geological Survey reported an earthquake of 3.5 magnitude hit in Coniston in the Lake District, Sky said.
