4.7 Quake Near Japan Nuclear Plant

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 4.7-magnitude earthquake Sunday morning near the site of the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster in Japan.

The earthquake’s epicentre was 33 miles offshore, almost directly east of the power plant damaged in the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The quake was reported at 6:44 p.m. Saturday, Texas time.

There were no initial reports of damage or injuries along the east coast of Japan’s main island, and no tsunami warning was issued.

The 2011 earthquake was measured at 9.0-magnitude.
