Wild weather continues to rock south-east Queensland, with suburbs north of Brisbane bracing for further thunderstorms, damaging winds and large hailstones.

State Emergency Service (SES) crews are preparing for a hectic night with more than 179 callouts so far.

The Bureau of Meteorology says Strathpine and Albany Creek were hit about 8:00pm (AEST).

It warns residents at Lake Samsonvale, Kallangur, Narangba, Caboolture, Burpengary and Beachmere to prepare their homes as the storm cell moves north.

A motorcyclist died in the hailstorm at Thornlands on Brisbane’s southside.

Earlier, a wild storm battered the Logan region, south of Brisbane, causing property damage and widespread blackouts.

The severe storm cell swept through the region about 4:30pm.

Lightning strikes and fallen trees cut power to tens of thousands of homes.

Logan resident Darryl Cross says there was little warning.

“It only lasted about five minutes,” he said. “You couldn’t hear yourself speak with noise on the roof.

“We’ve never seen it before. We have been here for 28 years and I have never seen [a] storm like that in this area.”

Damon Guyer was one of three people hurt by large hail at the Hyperdome shopping centre at Loganholme.

“I went to look out the back door to see what the commotion was and I actually copped one that hit me on the top of the head and it dropped me on the spot,” he said.

“Next minute I know I had blood coming from the top of my head.”

Storm warnings have been issued for large parts of the state, stretching from south of Rockhampton in central Queensland, west to Roma and south to the NSW border.
