Thai troops are trying to reach tens of thousands of people stranded by flooding in a major city in the south of the country.

Authorities say they should be able to reach everyone who is stranded by the worst flooding ever seen in the southern border city of Hat Yai.

Days of torrential rain has caused flash flooding that peaked at three to four metres in the city yesterday.

Cars were submerged and the water was lapping at the rooftops of some homes.

Water has begun receding but is still two metres deep in the city centre.

Emergency services are distributing supplies.

Flooding has also been affecting the resort island of Koh Samui and flights to and from the island have once again been cancelled today due to bad weather.
