Dozens of people in northern India have been killed by landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains, a senior district official says.

The landslides occurred in three separate districts of Uttarakhand on Saturday, the official told AFP in the state capital Dehradun.

“Only Fourteen bodies have so far been recovered,” said Piyush Rautela, executive director of the government-run Disaster Mitigation Centre of Uttarakhand.

Five people died in the district of Almora when their house collapsed due to a landslide. Five other people died in Nainital district and four others were killed in Haridwar.
