The magnitude of an earthquake is related to the length of the fault on which it occurs — the longer the fault, the larger the earthquake. To generate a super earthquake of 10.5 magnitude would require a fault 1000 miles long. The largest earthquake ever recorded was a magnitude 9.5 on May 22, 1960 in Chile on a fault that is almost 1,000 miles long. The African Rift Zone on which Israel sits is about 3,500 miles long.
The magnitude scale is open-ended, and scientists can’t rule out a “Mega Quake” because they’ve only been measuring earthquakes for 100 years.
Revelation Chapter 16 V 17, 18, 20 & 21 says:
The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on the earth, so tremendous was the quake.
Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found. From the sky huge hailstones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men and they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible. (NIV)
The largest recorded hailstone to date weighs in at 2.7 pounds. The size of a hailstone is governed by the power of the storm that creates it. The more powerful the storm, the longer the hailstone stays up gathering ice, until the forces of the storm can no longer keep it aloft.
